Prayers . . . for children

HELP MY OVERLY SENSITIVE CHILD

Lord, you see my child crumpled here in my arms, sobbing.  She takes others' words and actions to heart and is so easily wounded.  You know her spirit and her soft heart toward you.  How you must have smiled when you created her!  She's like a delicate crystal vase --- beautiful and fragile.  You know how little it takes to make her eyes shine; how little to crush her heart.

God, it tears me apart to see her hurting.  I want to wrap her vulnerable spirit in the thick padding of my love and protection to prevent unnecessary pain from others' cruelty and thoughtlessness; to guard her from those who would prey upon her perceived weakness.

But Lord, I know that is not your way.  Put your arms of love around her.  Strengthen her spiritually, physically, and emotionally.  When she feels weak, remind her to ask for your divine strength so she will become strong.

Give her the confidence of your unconditional love, and the courage to face others without wavering.  Develop in her an inner reliance on you so she can withstand life's hard knocks and the wily schemes of the evil one.  Most of all, may her life shine with the light of your presence, brilliantly reflecting the many facets of your love.  Through Christ,

Amen

But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you,

for my power is made perfect in weakness.'

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly

about my weaknesses,

so that Christ's power may rest on me.

That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses,

in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.

For when I am weak, then I am strong.
