Prayers . . . on marriage and divorce

Lord, Reconcile This Married Couple

My God and my redeemer, there are only three who know precisely what has happened within this marriage -- the husband, the wife, and you.  Yet one thing I do know, a vow was spoken before you and witnesses, and you did not take that vow lightly.  I've wondered how anyone who listens to that vow being taken can hear it as anything but sacred.

The residue of that broken, shattered vow is all around.  There are tears, questions, secrets desperate phone calls, sleeplessness, unsound decisions, uncontrolled outbursts, insinuations, wonderings, accusations, sobbings, and immeasurable pain.  O God, help, please help!  There is need for that assurance that only you can provide.

In Isaiah 58 you refer to the "repairer of the breach."  You are being asked now, Lord, to be that to these who are in need of reconciliation.  Have mercy, Father, and light the way out of this dark, deep cavern of futility and heartache.  Apply your balm of healing liberally as you straighten the twisted tentacles of this gnarled situation.  Lead them back into conformity with their spoken vows and your holy Word.  Thank you, Lord.

Amen

"If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored.

Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty

and will lift up your face to God.

You will pray to him, and he will hear you,

and you will fulfill your vows."

Job 22:23, 26-27
