PRAYER AGAINST FEAR AFTER WATCHING A TERRORIST ATTACK ON TELEVISION

Heavenly Father, why am I afraid?  Nobody harmed me or anyone I know.  I simply viewed the attacks on television, crying and praying for victims and families.  I saw airplanes smash through building and knew innocent people had been killed in an instant.  I watched human beings plunge from flaming buildings to their deaths.  I stared in horror as the Twin Towers, symbols of our nation's pride, crumbled in a cloud or dust.  I begged for protection for victims fleeing the disaster.  They were people just like me, Lord.

Those horrific images that are seared into my memory changed my whole world, God.  They destroyed my sense of safety.  I feel the vulnerability of our nation; I feel my own vulnerability.  Will it happen again, Lord?  Next time will it touch my friends and family?  Or will you protect us?  I know fear comes from Satan, not you, so take the fear from me.  I know that you have all power, God, and can do anything you choose.

I trust my family and myself to you.  I know nothing can happen to us unless you allow it.  I beg for your protection, but at the same time I ask for the grace to submit to Your will.  And I understand if something terrible does happen, you will lift good from the bad and use it to glorify you.  I realize you will be with my family and me, and provide comfort for us through any trouble you allow.  In Jesus' name.

Amen

If you make the Most High your dwelling --

even the LORD, who is my refuge --

then no harm will befall you,

no disaster will come near your tent.
