PRAYER FOR FEAR OF FLYING

Dear God, I've always been afraid of flying, but with the recent terrorist attacks, my fear has grown.  The thought of boarding an airplane terrifies me, even though I know you care enough to be with me and to help me through the flight.

I need your help, dear Lord.  Touch my fearful mind and heart.  Fill me with your peace.  Give me the faith I need to take this trip.  Help me sense your hand around me and around the airplane as you hold us up in the sky.  keep my focus on the image of your everlasting arms underneath us.  I turn my face toward you, O Lord, as I give you my fear and ask you to replace it with confidence in you and your faithfulness.

I know you want to encourage me to be strong and courageous, just as you have always encouraged your people to trust you during times of fear.  I know that nothing can happen to me unless you allow it.  I know you will do what is best for me.  I choose to believe those truths -- to set my mind on them.

Be with me as well as with the pilots, the crew, and the other passengers.  Surround us with your love.  Fill every heart with Your peace.  In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen

I sought the LORD,

and he answered me;

he delivered me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant;

their faces are never covered with shame.
