Prayers . . . for children

PRAYER FOR A FAMILY WITH A DISABLED CHILD

Heavenly Father, my heart grows heavy whenever I think of this family whose child is disabled.  They love this young one, Lord, maybe more than they would a healthy child.  It breaks their hearts to see her suffer, to know she will never be able to do and achieve all the things most of us take for granted.  They agonize when strangers are rude or ridicule her.  I know they ask themselves why -- why our child, Lord?  They would rather bear the pain of the disability in their own bodies than see her anguished and in agony.

Help them, Lord.  Strengthen them when they are so exhausted they don't want to continue doing all the work required for her care.  Keep them from guilt because her helplessness sometimes angers them.  Lift the financial burden her disability brings, and provide for them.

Draw them close to you and help them pass on your comfort and hope to their daughter.  Let your power surge through them, shaping them into uncomplaining servants with hearts that desire nothing less than your will.  Enable them to trust you to do whatever is best for them, no matter how bad the circumstances may seem.  You will walk with them.  I know they are more precious than gold to you.  They are your treasure.  Thank you for my friends, Lord, and thank you for your amazing love for them.

Amen

But we have this treasure in jars of clay

to show that this all-surpassing power is from God

and not from us.
