Prayers . . . for loved ones, friends and strangers

PROTECT US FROM ROAD RAGE

O gracious Father who protects us, I call out to you against the sin of road rage; an evil that endangers travelers on our highways.  I beg your forgiveness for a society ranting and raving on streets and freeways; lashing out at complete strangers.

I plead with you to keep my friends and family safe in their cars.  Protect them against the fury on our freeways.  Give my friends and family wisdom when they cross paths with an angry person. Calm them and enable them to keep their emotions in check.  Don't let the people in my range of influence be guilty of uncontrolled anger, but rather fill them with self-control.

Make them considerate as they drive.  Give them the grace to overlook the mistakes of others.  Make them willing to turn the other cheek by glancing away from an out-of-control person rather than staring them down.  Stop them from chasing down an offending car.  Keep them from provoking other drivers with angry words and gestures.  Help them to want to please you rather than take revenge.  Teach them that you see the godly character they exhibit alone in their cars, even if no one else does.  In Jesus' name, I ask you to make them peacemakers instead of troublemakers.

Amen

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious; sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.  I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
