Prayers . . . on breaking free
HELP WITH OVEREATING
God, I feel desperate almost every day. I can't control my eating! I am grateful to have food when so many others don't, but eating is my downfall. Living in a country where so many different foods are easily available is both a blessing and a curse.
I feel ugly, unhealthy, and a big, fat failure. You know all the diets I've tried. If I could just avoid food totally, I could be successful! I cook for the family . . . so how can I flee temptation when I'm around food all the time?
I know my body is a temple for your Holy Spirit, and I want to care for it properly. I just don't know what to do anymore.
Give me your power to resist overeating or provide a way of escape from this temptation as you promised in 1 Corinthians.
Your Word tells me that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. I ask you to build self-control into my character so that I may honor you. I pray in the name of Jesus, who loves me just as I am.
Amen
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
