PRAYER FOR THOSE
WITH DEMENTIA
God of patience and comfort, here I am again crying out to
You for help. So many peoples lives have been destroyed by dementia.
They are so confused; living in a world beyond reach, believing things not true, angry and accusing.
They do not recognize friends or loved ones anymore; strangers to
them. They are unable to perform simple daily functions. Frying an egg, balancing
a check book, even enjoying a ride in the country are all too much.
They wander from chair, to yard, to their room -- endlessly circling all day long. Paranoid,
they babble of enemies who stalk them. They are not
recognizable as the the kind, intelligent, loving people they once
were. Where have they gone, Lord? They seem to have died. O God, help!
They don't deserve this terrible disease.
It is so frustrating. No one can stand to see them in this state of mental disarray. My heart
goes out to all involved. This is a living death; an unending grief.
What will they do Father?
Should they be kept at home? It would be so hard to place them in a care facility, betraying those
mothers and fathers who met their childrens' every need? Lead
them through this wilderness; guide their decisions. Help them find kind caregivers who will honor
them even in this present state. You are the Rock of Refuge, Lord. Please come and help
them now. Thank You.
Amen
"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble . . .
for you, Lord,
have never forsaken those who seek
you."
Psalm 9:9-10
