Sunday's Prayer ...

 

"Take My Broken Dream, Lord"

 

Lord, I feel like a child coming to her father with a broken snow globe.  My dream is broken, Lord, and I feel so discouraged.  So disillusioned.  I thought I'd heard from you.  I tried to pay close attention to your voice, tried to be obedient.  yet my dream shattered into tiny pieces around my feet.  What was I thinking?  Was it wrong?  Is that why you had to wrestle it from me?  Was I holding too tightly?  Were my motives impure?

 

Or Lord, have you wrestled my dream away in order to give me something bigger?  You are the Father of dreams.  You gave them to Abraham, Israel, Joseph, Nehemiah, Daniel, Peter and John.  You long to spark the desire in us to do something beyond ourselves; something so big that only you could make it happen.  And then, Father, when all hope is lost, when our snow-globe dream lies in a million pieces on the floor, you move miraculously to make the dream come true.

 

Help me to focus not on the dream, but on the giver of dreams.  Help me to see your leading in this rejection.  Fill my heart with peace.  Help me to trust your care for me.  And then Lord, let me trust you for a new dream.  Keep me listening.  Help me to yearn for obedience.  Help me to see you fulfill my dreams in your time; in your way.  And when the day comes that others notice, help me not to take a single ounce of credit for what you have done in my life.  Through Christ who has made dreaming possible.

 

 Amen.
